Where the Life Path describes the terrain, the personal year describes the weather. It is your birth month and day added to the year you want to read, and it moves you through a nine-year cycle — each year asking something different of the same person.

How the personal year is calculated
Reduce your birth month, reduce your birth day, reduce the year you are reading, then add the three and reduce once more. The personal month adds the calendar month to that figure; the personal day adds the calendar day to the personal month. The year turns on 1 January in this method, which is the more common convention; some practitioners turn it on your birthday instead, and will read the months either side differently.
